Consider a pleasant summer evening and the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of the Hazel Day Longden Theatre. This rustic two story frame barn was built in 1918 by the late Grafton Longden, Sr. Given to the Putnam County Playhouse in 1983 by Mrs. Hazel Day Longden, it has been converted into an intimate 198 seat theatre.
2020 will mark the 59th season that the Putnam County Playhouse has entertained and amused those seeking live theatre performances. The Playhouse, an all-volunteer, not-forprofit community theatre, provides a venue for the people of the county and surrounding areas to participate in, and enjoy, live theatre.
Visitors to the Playhouse will find the air-conditioned interior in keeping with the barn atmosphere, but it contains all the stage, sound and lighting facilities for highquality theatre productions.
The Playhouse is active from June through September (with the first auditions taking place in April). It is located on Round Barn Road (10th Street) just north and east of Greencastle. The Playhouse board produces two musicals and two plays during its 16-week season, and most years, youth and children’s workshops are offered.
