Since the late 1940’s, Moore’s Bar & Grill has changed hands from time-to-time with Jay and Jackie Hopkins being the most recent owners. In March, 2019, Pete and Julie Meyer became its newest owners and they wanted to honor its place in the community by keeping it familiar while adding their own touch and breathing in new life to this well-known establishment.
The story of how Pete and Julie became Moore’s new owners is an interesting tale of being in the right places at the right times. Pete and Julie both grew up in Greencastle and graduated together from Greencastle High School. Following school, they went their separate ways until meeting again twenty years later at their high school reunion. As luck would have it, they were both living in Florida; Julie was a V.P. of Finance and Pete was the Athletic Director at Florida Southern College. Following the class reunion, they became re-acquainted and eventually married.
When the opportunity arrived, they were able to purchase Pete’s childhood home only a few blocks from downtown Greencastle and they began remodeling it to become a Bed & Breakfast. One day during remodeling, they decided to have a meal at Moore’s Bar. On that day, they learned that the owners were ready to sell but wanted it to remain locally owned. While Pete and Julie had long-term plans to retire to Greencastle so they could give back to their community, they had no idea it was ready to happen now. They purchased Moore’s Bar & Grill and dropped their Bed & Breakfast plans. Soon after, they left their careers in Florida and moved north and that newly remodeled B&B became their new Greencastle home.
Moore’s Bar & Grill at 17 South Indiana Street in Greencastle welcomes everyone from DePauw folks and alums, to locals, to visitors to Greencastle who seek a clean, neat and friendly place to have a drink and eat a delicious meal.
